Bio

Silvia studied composition at the conservatoire in Italy and at Mozarteum Universität, while completing a degree in electronic engineering. She holds a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London, where she has worked as Associate Lecturer. Her music is performed internationally by ensembles such as the ÖENM, Neue Vocalsolisten and Vertixe Sonora, and soloists such as cellist Esther Saladin and pianist Anna D'Errico. Silvia also performs with electroacoustic instruments she designs and produces herself. Her work is performed at festivals such as Venice and Salzburg Biennale, MATA, ECLAT and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Silvia was Fellow in residence at the Akademie Schloss Solitude, Le Vivier, and at the Centre for Human-Computer Interaction in Salzburg. Recently, Silvia was in a EASTN-DC residency at ZKM to develop an installation, which combines neural networks and the Internet of Things to simulate the experience of a dysfunctional smart home controlled by agents other than ourselves. In 2021 she was in residence at the Center for New Media Culture RIXC (EMAP/EMARE) and at the SWR Experimentalstudio. More recently, she has been awarded the Hannsmann-Poethen Literaturstipendium along with poet Kinga Tóth to produce a multimedia music theatre performance. Silvia currently teaches electronic music composition at the Conservatoire Guido Cantelli in Novara.
